Windows Series

series of paintings

Crossroads Gallery, Peowiaków 12

5 images that are ostensibly screenshots showing various trivial functions and commands in the Windows environment. However, the commands and descriptions of the procedures being run relate to biblical history, drawing the viewer into participation in those events. One of the images is a contemporary form depicting the crucifixion.

Public Games

installation, Castle Meadows

Matúš Lányi often creates artistic space by outlining non-existent buildings or objects ‘inserted’ in non-obvious places or drawing them into other spaces, mixing their functions and uses. In part of the green area located under the castle, he proposed a form of designated playing field. The pitch does not represent a specific sport, but mimics many different sports in a single outline. The installation has an ephemeral character and a kind of performance. A softball team from Lublin was invited to play during the curatorial walk.

Matúš Lányi is a leading artist from the generation of Eastern European creative circles that emerged after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Contrary to simple classification, he is both a bold modernist in his subject matter and attitude and a traditionalist with excellent drawing skills – an heir to Andy Warhol’s aesthetic values, boldness and faith.
