Dominican Monastery in Lublin, 9 Złota Street, entrance from Jezuicka Street
Artist Tao YaLun focuses on human existence and the human condition in the age of information technology. His work encompasses a wealth of forms, from video and sound works to kinetic installations and manipulations of light and shadow. As an extension of human consciousness and the body, technology maximises the human capacity for thought and physical response. His works are filled with dialectical logic and philosophical reflection to provoke the viewer to think deeply. Although fibre optics and media technology have shortened the geographical distance between people, they have deprived us not only of awareness and experience of the real world, but also of awareness of the physical body. The essence of art and humanity is based entirely on visual illusions of perspective, resulting in a disconnect between mind and body. Using the versatility of natural light and shadow, the artist encourages viewers to explore the margins of self-awareness and the highest philosophical reflection by interacting with his works. He expects viewers to experience a moment when their consciousness is awakened by the flickering, ambiguous images.
